MONTEZUMA — The Montezuma football team is the lone area team remaining in the playoffs.
The Braves scored a touchdown with 10 seconds remaining to defeat ranked Bedford, a state finalist last season in 8-player football.
“What a game that was,” Montezuma head coach John Beck said. “Both teams left it all on the field, and we were fortunate to come out on top.”
The game was back-and-forth throughout.
An interception returned for a touchdown put the Bulldogs up 28-25 midway through the fourth.
After a defensive stop, the Braves scored on a touchdown pass from Brady Boulton to Carter Michalek with seconds remaining, for the 32-28 victory.
The Braves’ offense showed near perfect balance, rushing for 237 yards and throwing for 235.
Broox Stockman led rushing with 129 yards, and David Rose led receiving with seven catches for 124 yards.
“Our line played extremely well tonight,” Beck said. “I cannot be more proud of how these guys have played all year. This is such a fun group to coach, and I am glad we were able to earn another week with them.”
Up next for the Braves in the quarterfinals is a match-up on the road with second-ranked Lenox (10-0).
The Tigers are led by a good defense and a rushing attack that has totaled 56 touchdowns on the season.
Kickoff will be 7 p.m. Thursday.
