LENOX — The Montezuma football team’s postseason run came to an end Thursday night. The Braves lost 62-20 to Lenox in the 8-player state quarterfinals.
“I am very proud of our guys,” Montezuma head coach John Beck said. “We made big gains with our physical play and that showed on both sides of the ball throughtout the year.”
The Braves kept it close for a quarter, ending the first at 14-7. But the Tigers’ rushing attack proved to be too much the rest of the way.
The Tigers rushed for 325 yards, averaging 7.2 yards per carry.
A strong Tigers’ defense forced three turnovers in the game.
The Braves were able to add two touchdowns in the third quarter, both on the ground from Broox Stockman, who had 132 yards on the night.
This was the Braves seventh quarterfinal appearance. They end their season at 10-2 with a district championship.
“Our seniors did a great job of leading all year long,” Beck said. “We are going to miss them as they have given so much to the program.”
