HLV-TC, Montezuma, Williamsburg seasons end in second round

Region 1: Semifinal
Nevada 3, Williamsburg 0
NEVADA — The Williamsburg volleyball team’s season came to a close Thursday night. The Raiders fell to Nevada in straight sets.
The second set of the night went into extra time, but the Raiders fell 29-27. The other two sets ended 25-13.
The Raiders finish the season at 18-11 and will return eight of their top nine contributors next season.
CLASS 1A
Region 7: Quarterfinal
Belle Plaine 3, Hillcrest Academy 2
KALONA — The Plainsmen traveled to Hillcrest Academy Wednesday and pulled out a five-set victory to advance to the regional semifinals.
The Plainsmen won sets two and three and took the fifth set 15-13 in the tightly contested match.
Kayleah Laughlin had one of her best performances of the season with 20 kills on an efficient night. The team totaled 41.
Denisyn Adams was the team’s leading defender with six blocks.
“I’m so proud of each girl on this team,” Belle Plaine head coach April Kressley said. “We went through some ups and downs but they never have up.”
The Plainsmen will face fifth ranked North Tama Monday.
North Tama 3, HLV-TC 0
TRAER — The Redhawks swept HLV-TC in three sets Wednesday night in quarterfinal play.
Ema Roberts led the Warriors with eight kills in the match.
Freshman Erilea Kupka finished the season leading the conference in assists (523), and Roberts was second in kills (297).
The Warriors end the season with a 14-15 record.
Region 1: Quarterfinal
Sigourney 3, Montezuma 1
SIGOURNEY — The Bravettes’ volleyball season came to an end Wednesday when they fell to Sigourney in four sets.
Each set was highly competitive with no margin wider than four points in its final.
The Bravettes won set three 25-22 before falling in set four by the same score.
Sydnee Burgess led the Bravettes in kills (12) and blocks (7).
They end their season with a 13-15 record.
Region 7: First Round
Belle Plaine 3, English Valleys 0
BELLE PLAINE — The sets were competitive, but the Plainsmen volleyball team got a sweep (25-18, 25-23, 25-21) over English Valleys in the first round of regional play Monday night.
The Plainsmen’s offense was balanced, with six different players having kills in the match.
Kayleah Laughlin added five blocks for the Plainsmen.
The Bears conclude their season at 7-20.

Montezuma 3, Lynnville-Sully 0
MONTEZUMA — The Bravettes swept Lynnville-Sully Monday, winning all three sets by double digits in the opening round of regional volleyball play.
Sydnee Burgess had 14 of the team’s 27 total kills. Kylee Larmore had seven.
Region 5: First Round
Waterloo Christian 3, BGM 0
WATERLOO — The Bears’ volleyball team fell to Waterloo Christian Monday night in the first round of regional play.
The team had 12 kills on the night, with three from three different players.
Ana Coleman led the team in kills with 85 for the season.
The Bears finish the season 6-16.
