Brooklyn Flag Festival kicks off June 7

BROOKLYN — The 2024 Brooklyn Flag Festival kicks off Friday, June 7 with the annual Kiwanis barbecue chicken dinner at the Catholic Church parking lot from 11 a.m. — 6 p.m.

Races begin at Brooklyn Raceway at 7:15 p.m.

On Saturday, June 8, activities include the parade, which begins at 10 a.m., along with the 5K run/walk, a vendor show and family activities, including an obstacle arena, dual lane slides, human foosball, face painting, Zounds the Clown, the pedal pull, a bike giveaway, bags tournament and a variety of food items.

On Saturday evening, a concert sponsored by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce is being held at the Southside Ballfield featuring Chad Brock with special guests Tyler Richton and The High Bank Boys along with Jack Blake + South 35 Band.

And new this year, the Big Bear Creek Bridge is being dedicated to Harold “Pie” Keller beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.

9 a.m. — Brooklyn Opera House Golf Fundraiser at the Brooklyn Victor Golf Course

11 a.m. — 6 p.m. — Kiwanis Chicken Dinner, Catholic Church parking lot

7:15 p.m. — Figure 8 Races at Brooklyn Raceway

Saturday, June 8

7:30 a.m. — 5K run/walk at the BGM school’s circle drive

9 a.m. — Pie Keller Bridge Dedication at Big Bear Creek

9 a.m. — noon — Vendor Show at Landes Park

10 a.m. — Parade (line up @ Mills and East Des Moines)

11 a.m. — 3 p.m. — Kids activities at Landes Park. Activities include an obstacle arena, toddler playground, dual lane slide, human foosball, obstacle course, sport combo and face painting

11 a.m. — Zounds the Clown

12:50 p.m. — Kids’ bike giveaway

1 p.m. — Pedal pull (sign up at 12:30 p.m.)

1 p.m. — Bags tourney

5 — 11 p.m. — Flag Festival Concert at the Southside Ballfield at 400 Brady St. The concert features Chad Brock with special guests Tyler Richton and The High Bank Boys along with Jack Blake + South 35 Band. The Post Concert party is at the Front Street Tap.

Sunday, June 9

9 a.m. — 3 p.m. — Ruritans Car Show at Landes Park. Registration at 9 a.m. with judging from 11 a.m. — 1:30 p.m. and awards at 3 p.m.
