Burns is lone area all-state athlete

The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association released all-state teams Friday. Only one area athlete received the honor.
BGM’s Beau Burns earned the only area selection, making the third team in Class 1A as a utility player.
Burns played a key role in the Bears’ success this season, which included 15 wins and a second-round appearance in district play.
The Bears’ junior hit .494 with 24 RBIs and 39 hits and was a threat from the mound. Burns totaled 17 1/3 innings pitched with 19 strikeouts and a 1.62 ERA and stole 23 bases as a base runner.
Burns was one of seven players in the South Iowa Cedar League named to an all-state team.
In Class 3A, 13 players in the WaMaC are scattered across the three teams.
