Bus drives off road near Malcom

MALCOM — The Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office received report of an accident involving a large bus at the intersection of Highway 63 and Highway 6 north about 10 p.m. March 25.
First responders located the bus, which was owned by Burlington Trailways, in a field north of the intersection, according to a press release from the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Department.
The bus was occupied by about 30 passengers; six reported minor injuries and were transported to UnityPoint Health in Grinnell where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The other occupants were taken to Grinnell College, the original destination of the bus.
The bus was removed from the scene by Lone Star Truck and Tire and was placed back in service. It continued its trip, picking up passengers in Grinnell.
The Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, East Poweshiek Ambulance Service, Brooklyn Fire and Rescue, Malcom Fire, Grinnell Fire and Ambulance, Montezuma Ambulance and Poweshiek County Emergency Management.
The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
