MARENGO — A new community calendar will provide one-stop shopping for event information online.
Marengo Community Development began a community calendar on its website this month. Local businesses, organizations and individuals can use the calendar to announce their community events.
The website, go-marengo.com, has been up about a year and a half, said Corienne Dally, Marengo Community Development director.
“We are a nonprofit, so the businesses do support us, so we are able to branch out and help the whole community,” said Dally. “We also have individual members.”
But anyone – even non-members – can visit go-marengo.com, click on the Community Events Calendar and scroll down to the submission form.
After an event is submitted, it is reviewed and approved. Fliers can be uploaded to accompany the information.
The events will be added to the monthly calendar and shared on the Marengo Community Development Facebook page.
Residents can check the calendar every day to see what’s going on in Marengo and the surrounding area. MarenGo will also post QR codes around town. Scanning the code with a cell phone camera will take residents to the calendar.
“One of the things that we do is to foster opportunities for philanthropic organizations… to grow,” said Dally. The calendar will foster that, she said.
The community used to have a community-wide calendar, said Dally. “Because it does take time to monitor it, sometimes those things fall by the wayside,” she said.
“We have to monitor it. It takes time,” said Dally. But having a one-stop spot helps everyone.
Since the launch of the new calendar Oct. 2, response has been “really great,” Dally said.
Initially MarenGO listed its on events on the calendar. It sent emails to its members and to anyone signed up for communications from the organization.
“Within that day, I had tons of responses,” said Dally. “Already I’ve got October pretty full, and November is starting to get really full.”
Marengo Public Library has filled the calendar with its weekly events.
People who aren’t in the habit of checking the website can check Facebook for the events, said Dally.
