Former Iowa State Sen. Jim Carlin recently announced his candidacy for the United States Senate.
Carlin served in the Iowa Legislature from 2017-2022. He founded Iowa Liberty Network to help recruit true constitutional, conservative candidates to the Iowa Legislature, according to a press release from Carlin’s campaign.
Joni Ernst has held the Senate seat since 2015.
“Joni Ernst said she would go to D.C. and make them squeal,” Carlin said in the press release. “After a decade, it’s clear it was a clever campaign commercial, not conviction. Rather than making them squeal, Joni has joined The Swamp.
“I will not make empty promises,” said Carlin. “I will actually do what I say I am going to do, and that is to represent the people of Iowa with their best interest at heart. I will put America First.”
While in the Iowa Legislature, Carlin was instrumental in passing the Heartbeat Bill. He addressed elder abuse at the Iowa Veterans Home and mismanagement of the Veterans Trust Fund, according to the press release.
Carlin also introduced legislation to implement active shooter training and infrastructure in all Iowa schools and a property tax freeze for seniors. A bill requiring bathroom use in schools to be dictated by sex rather than “gender identity” was also proposed by Carlin.
Two years ago, Ernst was censured by at least 17 Iowa GOP county Central Committees for her vote redefining marriage and putting religious liberty and parental rights in peril as well as her support for anti-Second Amendment policies, Carlin’s press release said.
“Iowans deserve a voice in Washington, D.C. who actually listens to them and represents them — not big donors and special interests,” Carlin said. “More than that, Iowans deserve someone who genuinely cares about them and will work to make their lives better.
“There are enough self-serving establishment politicians in Washington. President Donald J. Trump needs America First allies, not adversaries.”
