PELLA — Central College exceeded its fundraising goal for GivingTuesday this year, with donations from alumni and supporters going to scholarships and supporting students.
The Pella private university announced in a news release that on GivingTuesday it received $129,700 from 225 donors, or 127% of its target amount. Donations will go to the Journey Scholarship Fund and student programming, according to the release.
“With typical Central competitiveness, we met and exceeded the challenge, which allowed us to break another giving record for both number of donors and dollars,” said Sunny Gonzales Eighmy, vice president for advancement, in the release.
A group of Central alumni were lead challenge donors for the fundraiser, allowing all gifts to the Journey Scholarship double up to $50,000, according to the release.
Every student who attends Central College will receive $1,000 every year for four years through the Journey Scholarship Fund, the release stated, making a Central education more affordable and accessible.
“Scholarships are a top priority for the college because they make the amazing Central educational experience even more affordable,” Eighmy said in the release.
“We can only achieve this with the ongoing support from our Central family. I want to say thank you to each of the 225 donors who made GivingTuesday such a remarkable success. We are so blessed and thankful for this generosity.”
