EAST AMANA — Ed Chabal held a campaign event in Iowa County June 2. He is running for Iowa Senate District 46, which includes Iowa County, Washington County, and parts of Johnson County.
Tom and Karen Boston-Kemple hosted the event at their home, the former Granary in East Amana.
Chabal lives in Washington, Iowa, is an Iowa State University graduate, and has been the chief financial officer for the Mount Pleasant school district for 27 years.
Chabal studied for two years at the University of Iowa, then two years at Iowa State University, earning a degree in agricultural economics.
He roots for both the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones.
The Chabal campaign focuses on fully funded public schools, a robust economy that supports small businesses and individual freedom to make choices.
The Boston-Kemple home was East Amana’s granary from 1925 — 2000. It was turned into a 3 story barn home in 2010.
Currently three generations of the Boston-Kemple live there, similar to Amana tradition from days gone by.
The home contains original sliding barn doors, grain chutes, and the elevator system of gears and buckets that lifted grain from the first to the second and third floors.
“Our family has known Ed for over twenty five years,” said Tom Boston-Kemple. “Because of his caring for others and commitment to education, he is the candidate we need to vote for the Iowa Senate in November 2024.”
