As I reflect on my first full trip around the sun of the high school athletics calendar year as a reporter, I am filled with gratitude.
It has been a year of growth as a writer.
I’ve enjoyed connecting and building relationships with coaches and highlighting so many athletes accomplishments. There’s been a lot of them for just covering seven schools.
When I started, I covered five schools, but I thought it was important to add BGM and Montezuma.
As the gears now turn to the 2025-26 athletic year, I want to give a shoutout to what has been a remarkable senior class to work with. You have not only been great athletes, but great people that have always been easy to chat with. I wish you all the best moving forward.
Speaking of the ‘'25-’26 year, fall sports kick into gear soon.
The Iowa High School sports no activity ‘dead’ week has come to an end.
Area football, cross-country volleyball and girls swimming all begin official practice Aug. 11. Many will also have camps this upcoming week.
Competition will also begin in the later part of the month, with the first competition date Aug. 25.
As I sip an ice-cold Arnold Parmer, cheers to another great year.
