MARENGO — The Marengo City council voted in December to establish the Marengo First Responders Department under the City of Marengo.
The resolution establishing the agency says that all funds generated by the department will be used for the benefit and operation of that department.
The city will provide liability insurance coverage for all members while performing official duties, and the elected service director must provide an annual report to the mayor and city council detailing g the department’s activities, finances and operational status.
The department will operate under policies and procedures approved by the City Council.
Marengo Mayor Adam Rabe said the insurance would cost about $50 per person. The first responders could store their supplies in the ambulance garage, said Rabe, who is Iowa County’s ambulance director.
The City of Marengo also has the option of creating space elsewhere for supplies if they prefer, Rabe said.
The resolution passed unanimously. Councilwoman Jenni Olson was absent.
