Class of 1959 meets in Homestead

HOMESTEAD — The Iowa Valley Class of 1959 reunited at the Homestead Welfare Club Aug. 25. Among the guests were members of Marengo High School’s 1957 and 1958 classes.

A meal was served at noon, and classmates spent the afternoon visiting.

Dick and Zelda Sherman, of Ely, provided music.

Classmates sent a sympathy card to the James Strasser family due to his death July 29. Strasser had planned to attend the reunion.

Another classmate, March Rush, of Huston, Texas, pass away earlier in 2023.

An article in the June 1990 addition of the Newspapers of Iowa County featured an article about a local hot rod custom cars club created by local car owners in the early 1950s. Ken Adams, now of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Dick Rotter, of Williamsburg, were two of the original members of the Rod Hawks were present at the reunion and were presented an enlarged copy of the article.

The class voted to donate leftover funds of $250 to the Marengo swimming pool fund.

Attending the reunion were Larry and Peggy Gerst, of Newhall; Harold and Karen Joseph, Dick and Myrta Rotter, of Williamsburg; James McCaw, Diane Fisher and Jim Honn, of Amana; Bill and Joan Martin, of Shellsburg; Marty Tompkins and Dale and Janet Gardner, of Cedar Rapids; Butch and Ann Schulte, of Litchfield, Minnesota; Donald and Ruth Myers, of Solon; Don and Karen Denzler, of Marshalltown; Sylvia Adams Zuber and her friend, Rod, of Mesa, Arizona; and David and Judith Roberts, of Green Valley, Arizona.

Attending from the 1957 and 1958 classes of Marengo High School were Kenny Adams, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Ron and Rosalie Shaull, Dale and Virginia Sperry, Ronnie and Karen Cronbaugh, John and Carole Vogt and Jackie Peterson, of Marengo; and Dick and Zelda Sherman, of Ely.
