TIFFIN — An explosive three-run first inning was all the Clippers needed to secure a 3-0 first round Substate victory over Williamsburg Friday night.
“It was the best inning of bats I’ve seen all season,” Williamsburg head coach Nathan King said.
Clear Creek Amana’s Maclane Morgan started things off with a double that set up an RBI triple from Kaden Phan.
Robert Meade then blasted a two run HR high over the left center field fence to make it 3-0 after one.
After the first, it was a pitcher duel between Williamsburg’s Nile Sinn and the Clippers Phan.
Sinn, after the first, allowed only three hits, and Phan allowed two all game with nine strikeouts.
Cael Moore had both hits for the Raiders connecting on a first-inning triple and a double in the fourth.
The Raiders had one runner in scoring position in the first, third and fourth innings but just couldn’t string together the multiple hits needed to rally from the 3-0 hole.
The first inning was the difference in the game,” King said.
“We had a few chances and just didn’t execute.”
The Clippers advance to play Solon Monday night, and the Raiders finish the season with an 11-22 record.
