Collision near Malcom kills 1, injures 4

MALCOM — A 29-year-old Chicago resident died Friday in a three-vehicle collision on Interstate 80 near Malcom.
Four others were injured.
According to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, Jerson Almendares, 22, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, was driving a semitractor-trailer eastbound on I-80 when Jeremy Armstrong, 43, of Abingdon, Illinois, rear-ended the truck with his van at mile marker 193 about 5:21 p.m.
Armstrong went over the median into oncoming traffic and collided with a third vehicle, killing the driver, who was not identified as of Sunday morning pending notification of next of kin.
Alendares and Armstrong were injured in the collision as were Edblin Sanchez-Cruz, 34, Josis Sanchez-Cruz, 39, both of Green Bay. They were transported by Brooklyn Ambulance to Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Both lanes of I-80 were closed until the accident scene was cleared. Poweshiek County deputies assisted at the scene.
