Family Fun Day
The Ladora Development Committee will host its annual Ladora Family Fun Day Saturday, Aug. 26, at Wayne Shaull Memorial Field, Ladora, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Activities include a softball tournament beginning at 10 a.m.; carnival games, ending at 5 p.m.; inflatables; food trucks; rolle bolle and bags tournaments beginning at 1 p.m.; and a silent auction, ending at 5 p.m. Comedian Raj Sharma will perform at 7 p.m.; the band 8 Seconds will perform at 8 p.m. Proceeds will go to Hope Foundation. The bar opens at noon (donate canned goods for a free drink).
Compass 5K, 10K, pancake breakfast
Compass Memorial Healthcare will hold its 5 and 10K fun run/walk and kids fun run Saturday, Aug. 26. Sign up online at www.compassmemorial.org or starting at 6:30 a.m. on the day of the race at 300 W. May St. in Marengo.
The 5 and 10K will start at 7:30 a.m.; the kids fun run begins at 8:45 a.m.
A pancake breakfast will be served from 7-10 a.m. for a freewill offering. Proceeds benefit the CMH Foundation. For more information, contact Compass Memorial Healthcare Foundation Events at 319-642-5543.
Historical Society’s 60th year
The Iowa County Historical Society will celebrate 60 years of the Historical Society and Museum Saturday, Aug. 26 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Pioneer Museum, 675 East South Street, Marengo. Cake and other refreshments will be served.
Truck and tractor pull
Car Quest of Marengo will host the Iowa County Truck and Tractor Pull Saturday, Aug. 26 to benefit the Iowa County Fairgrounds and projects. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds, 800 E. Marion, in Marengo.
Admission is $20 for anyone age 15 or older and $10 for children 7-14. Children 6 and under will be admitted free. A pit pass for ages 15 and older is $25; for ages 7-14 the pass is $15.
Coolers are allowed, and food and drink will be sold on the grounds. The event is sanctioned by Easts Central Iowa Tractor Pulling Association.
Community hymn sing
Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church will host a community hymn sing Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. Those attending are invited to share a piece of special music or a favorite reading. Everyone is also invited to bring a favorite finger food snack item to share during the fellowship time.
Round up
Marengo Ministerial Alliance will be beneficiaries of the Big G Round-Up from Aug. 28 through Sept. 10. Customers may round up their bills to the next dollar amount. The extra money will be used for the Ministerial Alliance Operation BackPack and Summer Lunch programs.
The programs provided 452 lunches during June and July 2023. During the school year, non-perishable food is sent home on Fridays to provide meals during the weekend for elementary age children.
Farmers markets
Marengo: second and fourth Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., north park pavilion. Last market of the season is Oct. 14.
North English: every Saturday, 8 to 11 a.m., south side of Freeman Foods.
Williamsburg: every Friday, 4 to 6 p.m. on the town square; every third Friday is a special event pop up, 4 to 7 p.m. The market runs through September.
Van Horne: at the Marketplace from 8:30-11:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 9.
Sauerkraut Days
Blairstown hosts its annual Sauerkraut Days during Labor Day weekend. Events begin at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, with the Kenneth Long Memorial Garden Tractor Pull. Activities continue through Sunday, Sept. 3.
Medicare seminar
Compass Memorial Healthcare Senior Health Insurance Information Program counselors in Marengo will offer a Welcome to Medicare seminar Saturday, Sept. 9 from 9-11:30 a.m. The seminar will be held in Marengo at Compass Memorial Healthcare in Conference Room 1 (located in a separate building to the East of the main hospital). Register by Sept. three by calling 319-642-8046.
The seminar will cover Medicare Part A and Part B benefits, the prescription drug benefit (Part D), Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare supplement insurance. For more information or questions call 319-642-8046.
