Hats and More
Hats and More will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 4, at the Pub Grub, 131 S. Main St., North English. Hosts will be JoAnn Scandridge, Vickie Plank and Frances Pilkington. The group met at the Copper Lantern, Sigourney, April 20. Carla Burdock and Judie Ulin won the door prize of a tea towel and a hotpad.
Williamsburg FFA plant sale
The Williamsburg High School plant science class and Williamsburg FFA Chapter will hold a plant sale May 3, 10:30 to 6 p.m.; May 4, 12:30 to 5 p.m., and May 5, 12:30 to 5 p.m. Cash or checks only.
Heart of Iowa series
The Heart of Iowa Democrats continue their “Earth to Iowa!” climate series on Wednesday, May 3, at 7 p.m. with “What’s in Your Soil?” Panelists will include Sikowis Nobiss, founder and executive director of Great Plains Action Society, Carolyn Raffensperger, executive director of the Science and Environmental Health Network, and Steve Falck, senior policy advocate at the Environmental Law and Policy Center.

Amana blood drive
The Amana Library will host an ImpactLife Blood Drive Tuesday, May 9, and Thursday, May 11, from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Mobile Bus. The drive will be held in the Amana Library Parking Lot, 3023 220th Trail, Middle Amana.
Donors can receive a $10 gift card ($25 for double red donations) or 500 bonus points to the Donor Loyalty Store. Bonus points can be used toward any items in the store including the limited-edition baseball cap available this summer only. Potential donors must be at least 17, weigh more than 110 pounds, and possess a photo ID to donate. Please eat and hydrate before donating. Genealogy Society open house
The Iowa County Genealogy Society is having an open house at their new location, 847 Washington St., Millersburg, from 1 to 4 p.m. May 6. Refreshments will be served and there will be a drawing for door prizes. You may also visit the Millersburg Public Library next door.
Williamsburg Kiwanis blood drive
The Williamsburg Kiwanis Club will host a Red Cross blood drive Tuesday, May 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hall, 102 East Penn St., Williamsburg. For an appointment, call (800) 733-2767 or visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter sponsor code: KiwanisWilliamsburg. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Altar and Rosary luncheon
St. Joseph’s Altar and Rosary will host its 11th annual tea and salad luncheon at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11. Guest speaker will be woodcarver Linda Langenberg. The event will be held in the St. Joseph Catholic Church basement, 221 N. Knoll Ridge St, North English.
Spring shop hop
The Iowa County spring shop hop will be held Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Iowa County businesses interested in curating a unique, seasonal experience that encourages travel and commerce through the county are encouraged to align with the day and roll out the red carpet for visitors. A second event will be held Saturday, Oct. 14.
Meals from the Heartland
Meals from the Heartland will package 30,000 meals from 10 a.m. to noon June 3 at Lutheran Interparish School, Williamsburg. Community support is encouraged. The event is sponsored by St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Please contact the church office to volunteer, make a monetary donation or with any questions at (319) 668-1266.
HLV Alumni Meeting June 24
The annual alumni meeting and banquet for Hartwick, Ladora, Victor, St. Johns and HLV will be held Saturday, June 24, at the Victor American Legion Hall. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner to follow at 7:15 p.m. Cost of the meal is $20 per person. RSVP by June 9 to Bernie McGuire, 5585 North St., Bettendorf, Iowa 52722. Spring Celebration in Van Horne
The Van Horne Economic Development will hold a family spring celebration Saturday, May 13, on Main Street. There will be free games and prizes for kids of all ages, a vendor market at Birds of a Feather and more. This coincides with the last week of Benton Youth Soccer. The event will be held rain or shine, with indoor facilities already set up in case of bad weather.
Flea Market in Van Horne
Birds of a Feather will host its second annual flea market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3. There will be vendors both at Birds of a Feather and indoors at the Community Center. This is the same day as townwide garage sales in Van Horne and Newhall.
