Iowa County
Marengo FFA greenhouse sale
The Marengo FFA chapter will hold its annual greenhouse sale beginning Wednesday, May 10, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. and continuing Thursday, May 11, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Friday, May 12, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 13, a virtual sale will be held on Facebook with any plants that are left. Plants include peppers, tomatoes, annuals, succulents, hanging baskets and containers.
Heart of Iowa series concludes
The Heart of Iowa Dems conclude their “Earth to Iowa!” climate series on Wednesday, May 10, at 7 p.m. with “What’s in Your Food?” Panelists will include Tommy Hexter, rural organizer and educator for Iowa Farmers Union and owner of Grinnell Farm to Table food hub; John Hogeland, co-owner of Whippoorwill Creek Farm in Monroe County, and Christine Curry of the Grenada Goat Dairy Project, Izaak Walton League, and Institute for Global Health and Health Policy.

Altar and Rosary luncheon
St. Joseph’s Altar and Rosary will host its 11th annual tea and salad luncheon at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11. Guest speaker will be woodcarver Linda Langenberg. The event will be held in the St. Joseph Catholic Church basement, 221 N. Knoll Ridge St, North English.
Spring shop hop
The Iowa County spring shop hop will be held Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Iowa County businesses interested in curating a unique, seasonal experience that encourages travel and commerce through the county are encouraged to align with the day and roll out the red carpet for visitors. A second event will be held Saturday, Oct. 14.
Pool Pals Purse Palooza
As part of the Iowa County Shop Hop on May 13, the Marengo Pool Pals are sponsoring a Purse Palooza from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lizzie’s Dining Car restaurant in Marengo. There will be over 100 lightly used purses for sale, many of them designer brands. Proceeds go to the new Marengo Swimming Pool. Additional accessories for sale are jewelry, including new Premier Jewelry sets, readers, billfolds and clutches.
What Cheer Opera House
The What Cheer Opera House presents GIT Improv on Saturday, May 13, at 7 p.m. Food and beverages will be served outdoors from 5:30 p.m. to intermission, provided by Grant Ranch Grub and Pub. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at the door.
The What Cheer Opera House presents Country Buddies with Stan Knipfer, Jim Chambers, and Teresa Hammett on Saturday, May 27, 7 p.m. A free will donation will be taken during intermission.
Iowa County SWCD
The Iowa County SWCD will hold its monthly meeting on May 16 at the USDA building, 435 N. Highland St., Williamsburg, at 8 a.m. Please call ahead if special accommodations are needed, (319) 668-2359 ext. 300.
The Iowa County SWCD is conducting their monthly meetings on the same schedule via conference calls for the time being. The meetings are still open to the public. If interested in attending they can email debra.conrad@ia.nacdnet.net for the conference call information.
Pioneer Heritage Museum opening
The Iowa County Pioneer Heritage Museum, Marengo, will open for the season Saturday, June 3, with a free grill lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The museum and grounds are located at 675 East South St., Marengo, and will remain open until 4 p.m. for the public to tour. Special exhibits this year include wedding dresses from the past and Mildred Benson, author of the “Nancy Drew” books.
Meals from the Heartland
Meals from the Heartland will package 30,000 meals from 10 a.m. to noon June 3 at Lutheran Interparish School, Williamsburg. Community support is encouraged. The event is sponsored by St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Please contact the church office to volunteer, make a monetary donation or with any questions at (319) 668-1266.
HLV Alumni Meeting June 24
The annual alumni meeting and banquet for Hartwick, Ladora, Victor, St. Johns and HLV will be held Saturday, June 24, at the Victor American Legion Hall. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner to follow at 7:15 p.m. Cost of the meal is $20 per person. RSVP by June 9 to Bernie McGuire, 5585 North St., Bettendorf, Iowa 52722. Checks can be made payable to HLV Alumni Association. Please include your year of graduation.
Night at the Museum
The Amana Heritage Society announces the following dates for its Night at the Museum program: Thursday, June 8, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Communal Kitchen Museum; Thursday, June 22, 5 to 7 p.m. at the High Amana General Store; Thursday, July 13, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Amana Heritage Museum with a special exhibit opening, and Thursday, July 27, 5 to 7 p.m. at the High Amana General Store. Night at the Museum is a free event.
Benton County
Spring Celebration in Van Horne
The Van Horne Economic Development will hold a family spring celebration Saturday, May 13, on Main Street. There will be free games and prizes for kids of all ages, a vendor market at Birds of a Feather and more. This coincides with the last week of Benton Youth Soccer. The event will be held rain or shine, with indoor facilities already set up in case of bad weather.
Flea Market in Van Horne
Birds of a Feather will host its second annual flea market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3. There will be vendors both at Birds of a Feather and indoors at the Community Center. This is the same day as townwide garage sales in Van Horne and Newhall.
Belle Plaine garage sales
Belle Plaine will hold citywide garage sales Friday and Saturday, June 2 and 3. Lists will be available at the Country Foods Bulletin Board on Wednesday, May 31.
