MARENGO — Compass Memorial Healthcare has been recognized by Top Workplaces as the nation’s #1 midsized employer of front line workers for 2026.
This national award highlights employers across North America that are setting a higher standard for the front line employee experience. Rankings are based on what matters most — direct, confidential feedback from front line employees themselves.
Front line workers deliver care, maintain safety, support patients and customers and ensure operations continue day after day, often in demanding, high-pressure environments. The Frontline Workers Award was created to recognize organizations that are building cultures where front line employees feel supported, respected, and valued.
“Who we are begins with our culture and environment. Day after day, we strive to provide remarkable health care that makes a difference in the well-being of the communities and patients we serve,” says Barry Goettsch, chief executive officer at Compass.
“To achieve this mission, every team member must feel valued and aligned with making this a personal goal, as they are the ones on the front lines doing the work. We have outstanding team members who truly make a difference for the patients they serve and the communities within our service area,” Goettsch said.
In 2025, Compass received #1 Top Midsized Healthcare Employer Award in the state of Iowa, marking its fifth consecutive year earning this recognition. Compass has also been honored for professional development, employee well-being and employee appreciation.
In addition, Goettsch received a Top Workplace Leadership Award, recognizing his outstanding leadership.
Compass was also awarded Outstanding Patient Experience Award from Healthgrades, placing it in the top 15% of hospitals nationwide for delivering exceptional patient care in 2025.
“There’s a reason we receive awards year over year for our culture and team environment,” says Goettsch. “CMH team members create a positive, respectful, and empowering environment where people feel supported, heard, and valued. That culture directly impacts the care we provide, ensuring our patients and communities receive compassionate, high-quality health care every day.”
The Top Workplace honors are based entirely on anonymous employee feedback collected through a third-party survey.
