NORTH ENGLISH — Stephanie Healy, from Compass Memorial Healthcare, presented an informative program titled “Preventative Screenings and Vaccines by Age, A Brief Overview” during the February meeting of the North English Fortnightly Women’s Club.
The Club held its February meeting at the EV History Center. Carol Montz and Pat Denison were hostesses and served a delicious dessert following the meeting.
Amy Andreassen called the meeting to order. Fourteen members were in attendance and responded to the question, “Would you rather drop a bad habit or gain a good one?”
Mary Glaspie shared the meditation, a reading “Spring is a Season of New Life.”
Ruthi Henson read the minutes from the December meeting.
Bonnie Romine shared correspondence from Beth Faidley about her mother and Fortnightly member Carolyn Elwood, who recently had a double bypass.
Romine reported that she should be leaving the hospital tomorrow for a rehab center, possibly Feather Stone in Iowa City. Romine had a get-well card for members to sign for Elwood.
Kathy Huber reported that she received $70 in dues and donations since the December meeting. With expenses of $100 for English Valley Care Center resident Christmas gifts and $50 to Mary Husband for the December program, the balance as of Feb. 6, was $2088.13.
Mona Hall presented information regarding a new Homemaker’s Furniture business being built in Tiffin, to be completed by 2028, which will add 200 jobs to the area.
Hall also said that Linn County received a gaming license and will be constructing a casino in Cedar Rapids.
Andreassen announced that Dawn Bouslog will not be able to present at the March meeting. Andreassen will ask Carol Trier if she could swap from April to March. If so, Bouslog will present in April.
