Concert to support LGBTQ families

GRINNELL — The PFLAG Grinnell/Poweshiek board of directors have planned a fundraising concert, featuring award winning performer Flamy Grant, at 7 p.m. Feb, 6 at the Brooklyn Opera House.

Concert tickets are available via the chapter website at pflag-grinnell.org/flamy-grant/. Proceeds will support LGBTQ individuals and families in the county.

“We are so excited to bring this performance to Poweshiek County,” said Monique Shore, president of the PFLAG Grinnell/Poweshiek board, in a press release.

“I’ve been listening to Flamy’s music ever since fellow board member Terence Blain-Herrera suggested this. And I absolutely love her,” said Shore. “Her music mixes guitar and vocals with hope-filled and uplifting lyrics.

“She sings about the challenges of being an LGBTQ Christian in a world where some see that as an oxymoron,” said Shore. “She’s a person of faith who is also a proud ally and mother of a trans daughter, I think her music is affirming and healing in a time that is filled with a lot of negativity for LGBTQ people.”

Grant, from Asheville, North Carolina, made drag history in 2023 when her debut album Bible Belt Baby reached #1 on the iTunes Christian music charts, earning her headlines in Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Billboard and People magazines, says the PFLAG press release.

In 2026 she was nominated by the International Folk Music Award for Best Album for her sophomore record CHURCH — which also hit #8 on the iTunes Country charts.
