Congratulations! It’s a pool!

Congratulations to everyone involved who have worked or given donations toward the Marengo swimming pool project.

At a city council meeting Oct. 25, the council passed a resolution awarding the swimming pool contract to Portzen Construction Inc. The only feature of the pool that has been temporarily removed is the climbing wall.

However, in the construction of the pool, the brackets, et cetera, needed for the installation of a climbing wall, will be put in place and, hopefully, in the future, sufficient funds can be raised to install the climbing wall.

The contract provides that the swimming pool will be constructed and completed by the end of October 2024. This will mean that the swimming pool will be open for the 2025 swimming season and thereafter.

I wish to thank everyone who has assisted us by their volunteer work or donations to secure the necessary funds to supplement the city bond issue so that the new pool can be completed.

The support that we have received was unbelievable. At the outset, the pool committee hoped to raise $750,000 in donations and grants. To date, the amount that we have received in donations and grants is approximately $1.3 million dollars.

As you all know, Marengo is a wonderful community, and I am proud to be one of its residents.
