Montezuma’s Ellen Cook and Iowa Valley’s Lydia Kriegel were unanimous first-team picks in the South Iowa Cedar League, as all-conference teams are announced before state tournament play begins.
Cook is still playing. The Bravettes play in a regional final tomorrow in Indianola.
Kriegel, in her senior season for the Tigers, averaged nearly 18 points and 7 1/2 rebounds a game.
HLV-TC’s Ayla Hall, a Central College commit, and Montezuma’s Shiressa Wetering rounded out the area first-team selections.
Montezuma’s Janel Burgess was named coach of the year after Montezuma’s first place finish and will be heading to the regional final for the seventh time in the eight years she’s been at the helm.
Five more area players made second team all-conference: Montezuma’s Vivian Cook and Claire Erselius, English Valleys’ Ava Gehrking, HLV-TC’s Emery Hall and BGM’s Karagyn Minnaert.
Minnaert averaged about eight points per game in her senior campaign for the Bears. The other four will all be returning next season.
