Montezuma’s Ellen Cook and Williamsburg’s Carly Rich racked in two girls’ basketball all-state honors this week.
Both were named to the second team by both the Iowa Girls Coaches Association and the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association, Cook in Class 1A and Rich in 3A.
Cook and Rich were both primary ball handlers for their state qualifying teams. The Bravettes were defeated in the quarterfinals, and the Raiders advanced to the semifinals, their best season in history.
Cook averaged just over 14 points a game this season for the Bravettes and also led the team in assists (127) and steals (77).
The Bravettes’ senior will be running cross-country and track at Drake University.
Rich, also a senior, averaged nearly 13 points a game, leading the Raiders. Rich also led the team in steals (62), assists (56) and three-pointers (53).
Four more years of basketball awaits the Raiders senior at Wartburg College.
Williamsburg’s Zoe Allen was named third-team all-state by the Iowa sports writers.
Allen was a key presence in the paint for the Raiders in their historic season, averaging just over 11 points a game and adding 121 rebounds.
Only a junior, Allen will be back next season.
