Advantage Group representatives Christine O’Brien and Amiee Pitlick presented information on supplemental insurance for city employees at the March 27 meeting of the Williamsburg City Council.
O’Brien and Pitlick gave an overview of short-term disability, off the job accident, critical illness with cancer, hospital indemnity and term life 20-year insurances. These insurance policies would be extra and paid by the employee, not the city. The council thanked O’Brien and Pitlick and said they would discuss it further.
Olivia Doehrmann asked the council to consider making the punch cards available for the aquatic center again this year. Doehrmann explained using a punch card is a great way for parents to pay for children’s pool use instead of sending cash. The council said they would offer the punch cards for the upcoming year.
Council approved an increase in rates for the aquatic center’s upcoming season. Single membership will be increased to $100 dollars from $80 dollars and family membership will now be $200 instead of $180.
City manager report
Aaron Sandersfeld, city manager, gave the public works report. Alliant Energy has inquired about using the trail easement to run their new service lines from the new substation. Sandersfeld said information is being gathered about buying into an Alliant Energy farm, how that would be a long term savings for the city and how much potential grant funding would pay for construction costs.
He also gave updates on the Aquatic Center. As of the meeting, five lifeguards, two managers and four concession stand applications have been submitted. The aquatic center needs at least 15 lifeguards for the season. Sandersfeld said dates at the end of April have been confirmed for lifeguard training to certify or recertified lifeguards.
Council approved the Williamsburg High School National Honor Society’s request to hold an Easter egg hunt on April 8 at noon in City Square Park. The council also approved to invest $186,105.03 for Park and Recreation, $1,019,965.79 Equipment Fund, and $864,755.65 Recreation into three Certified Deposits (CD’s) at Grinnell State Bank at 4.75% interest.
The internet connection went down during the meeting and Zoom became unavailable.
The next council meeting will be on Monday, April 10, at 6:30 p.m. at Williamsburg City Hall.
