MARENGO — The Iowa County Board of Supervisors accepted a bid Friday from Taylor Construction of New Vienna for pile driving on a spring bridge project.
Supervisors opened bids from six contractors during its last meeting, more bids than they’d seen for a project in the past couple of years.
"They’re getting hungrier,“ said Supervisor Abby Maas. Projects must be slowing down.
“I believe it has something to do with it,” said County Engineer Nick Amelon.
Taylor submitted the low bid, $47,000, for placing the piles for the bridge on H Avenue north of I-80 which will be constructed in the spring. The bridge is the first the county will construct using tax increment financing funds.
Amelon ordered the steel last month. It should arrive in December, he said.
Other bidders were Iowa Bridge and Culvert in Washington, $62,500; Nelson and Rock Contracting in Onawa, $104,499; Peterson Contractors in North Liberty, $48,500; Cunningham-Reis in Van Meter, $70,000; and Boulder Contracting of Grundy Center, $51,500.
