MARENGO — Iowa County Engineer Nick Amelon asked county supervisors last week to make a few changes on county roads.
Amelon said he received a request for a stop sign at 190th and A Diagonal. The 45-degree intersection southwest of Ladora had no stop sign, Amelon said. “There’s a T-ahead sign,” he said, which is just as good by Iowa Code.
Amelon said 190th is a rock road, but it turns into a level B road.
“There’s not a ton of traffic on that anyway,” said Supervisor Seth Meyer.
“Hardly any,” said Amelon. “And if you’re coming up to a T, you should stop anyway.”
Supervisors approved the change.
They also agreed to remove a speed limit sign on F Avenue between 148th Avenue and Iowa Highway 212. The single sign limits speed to 45 miles per hour at the intersection of F and 148th said Amelon. “It’s been there forever,” said Amelon, but he doesn’t know why it’s there.
Removing the sign will make the speed limit 55 or less during the day and 50 or less at night, depending on road conditions, and traffic, as spelled out by Iowa Code.
Supervisors also passed a resolution to make A Avenue north of the river in Victor a level B road. A public hearing is set for 9:15 a.m. Friday, June 27 for the change.
A level B road receives less maintenance from the county, and Amelon said the road is already treated as level B by the county.
Because there will be no change in the way the road is maintained, Amelon won’t be sending certified letters to residents about it, he said.
