MARENGO — County Fair royalty handed out awards during the Iowa County Fair last week.
Iowa County Little Miss Ronnie Gahring, of Homestead, Princess Alannah McKibben, of Marengo, and Little Mister, Ethan Uhlmann, of Williamsburg, started Thursday at the rabbit show at the Iowa County Fairgrounds.
McKibben wanted to be fair queen for the opportunity to get people more involved in the fair, she said. As runner-up in the queen contest, McKibben will serve as the Iowa County Princess.
McKibben wants people to know that they don’t have to be farmers to take part in the fair. McKibben doesn’t live on a farm, but she had several exhibits at the fair, including an 1890s farm post drill she refurbished for the mechanics division.
“I do a lot of static projects,” McKibben said. She shows a chicken but has no larger livestock.
Later Thursday morning, Gahring, McKibben and Uhlmann were in the show ring handing out ribbons and trophies during the goat show. They will also represent Iowa County during events and festivals throughout the county.
McKibben, a member of the Fairview Zippers 4-H Club, will be a senior at Iowa Valley High School this year.
