MARENGO — The elevator in the Iowa County Courthouse in Marengo won’t be operational before Oct. 27, Dylan Healey, building maintenance director for Iowa County, told Iowa County Supervisors last week.
A check valve on the elevator went out Healey said in September. The county has a maintenance contract with TK Elevator, which said it could replace the power unit for $28,880. The job would take between three days and two weeks, said Healey last month.
During the Oct. 10 meeting of the Iowa County Board of Supervisors, Healey said the elevator won’t be repaired before Oct. 27.
“Parts and equipment are ordered,” Healey said. “Sounds like they had to make some custom pieces due to the age of the elevator.”
That pushed the repair out to late October. They’ll be on site Oct. 27, Healey said.
Meanwhile, Healey has put signs on the handicapped parking signs on the south side of the courthouse instructing people to call his phone if they need something taken to the upper floors of the courthouse.
During tax season, Healey ran four or five things up to the treasurers office, he said. He didn’t have a lot requests for service.
“Usually now it’s just tags,” Healey said. He takes registration payments to the treasurer’s office and brings tags back down for residents who can’t make it up the stairs.
Healey said last week that he’d had only one person become really upset about the situation.
“We’re doing the best we can,” said Iowa County Supervisor Kevin Heitshusen.
“I just told him, it is what it is,” said Healey. His hands are tied.
