Crimes of Communism and the moral climate
By Rep. Brad Sherman, Iowa House District 91

Recently in the Iowa Legislature, we passed landmark legislation that protects children under 18 years of age from irreversible damage that happens through transgender surgeries and chemical therapies. My inbox absolutely exploded with “Thank You” emails from people expressing gratitude for taking action to protect children!
Requiring young people to wait until they are at least 18 years of age before taking such drastic action is a big win for Iowans, specifically for young people who are confused about gender. After all, we don’t allow kids to vote until they are 18. We don’t allow them to buy alcohol until they are 21. Likewise, as we tell them they are too young to alter their bodies with tattoos, shouldn’t we also tell them they are too young to have their sexual organs cut off? Of course!
When I listen to the opponents of this legislation, I usually see sincere people who truly believe they are advocating for the right thing, but they are operating from a problematic humanistic worldview. They believe they are helping confused children find out “who they really are” and experience their “true selves.” But the “true self” argument is based on the premise that a person’s mental state is a greater reality than the reality of their biological sex. I find that premise unproven, illogical, and false. I also find it difficult to believe that children, some as young as kindergarten, are concerned about “who they really are” unless such ideas are planted in their minds from other sources. This is why we also passed a bill prohibiting transgender affirming information from being taught in grades K-6. I felt it should have been K-12 but, for some reason, some thought K-6 was as high as it should go.
Not that long ago, a girl who thought she was a boy would have been sent to a psychologist to get help aligning her mind with her body. Now we have a trend in our culture that considers it normal for the girl who thinks she is a boy to be referred to a surgeon who will try to align her body with her mind. This is an alarming shift! What caused this shift and what is its root?
Humanistic Philosophy
The root problem is the loss of a moral compass in our culture due to humanistic philosophy. Bold clear standards for right and wrong have been replaced with faded pastels bleeding outside what remains of our moral boundaries. There are many examples, but one of the most obvious is drag shows being billed as “family friendly events” with children watching and sometimes participating. These events have been sponsored at tax-supported public schools and public libraries and they are nothing short of sexual grooming operations aimed at young children.
This is only considered acceptable because our culture has been gradually steeped in humanistic philosophy which teaches that right, wrong, and even truth itself are relative, and, each individual should be allowed to determine their own version of truth, right and wrong. In other words, there is no absolute right and wrong. This is a foundation for anarchy and is a recipe for the total destruction of a civil society.
Crimes of Communism
How did our moral climate get to this point? Was it planned or did it happen organically? My studies have led me to believe it is an intentional strategy that has been patiently propagated for decades. In 1958, former FBI Agent Cleon Skousen published a book that revealed 45 communist goals representing a strategy to overthrow America. In 1963, those goals were read into the Congressional Record. Below are some of those goals which are relevant to the current discussion.
•Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and press.
•Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in the media.
•Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, and healthy.”
•Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion.
•Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the grounds that it violates the principal of “separation of church and state.”
•Get control of the schools and teachers’ associations. Use them as transmission belts for socialism … Soften the curriculum.
•Gain control of key positions in radio, TV and pictures.
•Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate and old-fashioned.
•Discredit the American Founding Fathers as selfish aristocrats [and racists].
•Belittle American culture and discourage the teaching of American history.
•Infiltrate and gain control of big business and unions.
•Treat all behavioral problems as mental health or social problems.
•Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
Gradualism
After looking at these goals, which were known as early as the 1950s, and comparing them to what is happening daily before our very eyes, we must ask: "Is it logical to think what we are seeing in our culture is just a coincidence?" I think not. What we are seeing is the fruit of a strategic “long march through the institutions.” Italian communist Antonio Gramsci attributed the phrase, “a long march through the institutions,” to German socialist Rudi Dutschke who used it to describe his strategy to subvert western capitalism.
The strategy of gradualism is well documented, yet because it is so gradual, most people have been unaware of it. Communist leader Vladimir Lenin said: “We must replace individualism with collectivism without society knowing about it.” Even those who are aware of this gradualism have a tendency to be unalarmed and tolerate its slow progress while it simultaneously weakens their will to resist.
Take A Stand
Those whose eyes are open and who have the courage to advocate for public morality are standing up, even though they are often viciously denounced and threatened. But we must not stop — we will not stop! We will continue the fight for truth and the restoration of our moral compass. We will continue to offer the message that our true identity can only be found as we connect with The Creator and find the purpose for which we were created.
I trust this letter serves to help fuel the awakening that is vital for the survival of our nation. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Cor. 3:17)
