Dance team heads to championships

DES MOINES — Williamsburg High School’s Blackout Dance Team will compete Friday, Dec. 1 in the country’s largest high school dance team competition.
Dancers from across the state will take the floor at Wells Fargo Arena Nov. 29 through Dec. 1 for the 48th annual Iowa High School and College State Dance Team Championships.
Williamsburg dancers will compete Dec. 1 in three categories: pom, military and jazz.
The State Dance Team Championships will feature 25 college teams and 251 high school teams.
Organized by the Iowa State Dance Team Association and boasting more than 650 routines, the annual event will also see 140 finalists competing in the first-ever State Dance Team Solo Finals competition.
Teams and soloists are divided into classes based on school enrollment. Performers earn points for choreography, execution, difficulty, and showmanship.
Routines are evaluated and judged by industry professionals from all corners of the United States.
Tickets to attend in person and livestream access will be available to pre-purchase starting Nov. 20; information will be posted at www.isdtalive.com.
