Deep River Fun Days slated for July 11-13

DEEP RIVER — There are plenty of family-friendly activities, games and good food scheduled throughout the three days of Deep River Fun Days, slated for July 11 — 13.
The weekend begins Friday, July 11 with a flag-raising ceremony at the community center at 5 p.m.
Deep River Helping Hands 4-H Club will host a supper at the community center. The menu includes loose-meat sandwiches or walking tacos with cowboy beans, chips, watermelon and desserts, all for a free will donation.
At 6 p.m., the king and queen contest begins at the community center.
Registration for the cutie contest follows. Cuties will be chosen for 0-1 years, 2-3 years and 4-5 years of age.
A cake walk begins at 7 p.m.
The celebration continues Saturday, July 12.
Main parade line up and sign up begins at 8:30 a.m. by County Bank downtown. The main parade starts downtown at the corner of School and Main Streets at 10 a.m.
A kiddie parade will follow main parade as will an American Legion Auxiliary bake sale.
Sons of the American Legion will serve hamburgers, hot dogs and chips, and the American Legion will serve root beer floats.
Anyone wishing to take part in the tractor show should contact Steve Cranston at 641-595-6121 for details.
Children’s games are scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Registration for the Deep River Fire Department bags tournament begins at 11:30 a.m. the cost is $40 per team. Games begin at 12:30 p.m.
A foam party at the ball field is set for 1-2 p.m.
An alumni dinner will be served from 5-8 p.m. Contact Ed Evans at 630-707-0328 for details.
The Riremen’s Ball begins at 8 p.m. at the fire station. Attendees must be 21 or order and may bring their own beer. The cover charge is $5. Brass Pear will perform.
A pig raffle will be drawn during dance. Tickets may be purchased from any firefighter.
The celebrations conclude Sunday morning with an ecumenical church service with Michelle Williamson outside the community center at 9 a.m.
Those who attend should bring a non-perishable food item for Montezuma Food Pantry. Cash donations are always welcome.
