Delta Kappa Gamma holds state convention

“ I Belong” was the theme chosen by Iowa State Organization President Liz Poock for the State Convention of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International held June 6 and 7.
Members of Alpha Nu Chapter—Amy Jacobson, Peg Roemig and Susan Schaefer — joined fellow educators from all over Iowa at the West Des Moines Marriott. The event was organized by host chapters Beta, Beta Zeta, Beta Kappa, and Nu Alpha Gamma from the Southwest District.
The special guest representing International was Northwest Regional Director Lisa Olson from North Dakota who presented a workshop and spoke at the banquet.
Friday evening featured a presentation about AI in the classroom and workshops ranging from gathering family memories to traveling the Appalachian Trail.
On Saturday, members learned more about Iowa DKG, conducted Society business, celebrated the Iowa State Organization’s 89th birthday and honored the 12 founders.
Three members from Alpha Nu — Helen Bucher, Peggy Miller and Lavonne Sandersfeld — were honored along with 25 other deceased members from the State Organization during the Ceremony of Remembrance.
To conclude the weekend of food, fellowship and fresh ideas, members gathered for a banquet and the installation of officers for the 2025-27 biennium.
Alpha Nu member Linda Fritchen was honored for being a 50-year member of DKG.
Alpha Nu was one of 26 chapters awarded a gold Certificate of Excellence for outstanding achievement as a chapter for the 2023-2025 Biennium.
