Apr. 24, 2024 4:34 pm
GRINNELL — UnityPoint Health—Grinnell hosted 19 healthcare partners in person and more joining virtually for a two-day collaboration.
The group consisted of healthcare professionals specializing in diabetes care, prevention and support. Many in the group were Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, and others were on their way to that professional designation or focus on caring for patients with diabetes.
Participants from Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin reviewed the latest standards set forth by the American Diabetes Association and shared clinical best practices for helping patients with diabetes reach their best possible outcomes.
Patients who attend a diabetes education program can bring down A1C levels an average of 2.5% more than those who do not receive extra education and support, the group said.
According to the American Diabetes Association, more than 37 million Americans have diabetes, and another 96 million are living with prediabetes.
