DNR offers 50% cost share for planting prairie
Dec. 21, 2023 2:17 pm
Landowners interested in planting native prairie can do so through the State of Iowa’s prairie partners program, according to Jason Gritsch, wildlife technician with Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
This program works with the DNR and the Iowa native seed growers association to provide 50% cost share of native grasses and wildflower mixes, said Gritsch.
The landowner must sign a 10-year agreement stating that the owner will maintain the site and not destroy it.
Seed mixes that can be used with this program include short grass prairie, tall grass prairie and pollinator mixes with an abundance of wildflower species.
Interested landowners should contact Gritsch at 641 751-1432.
