The English Valleys-Tri County boys wrestling squad had a busy week last week, competing in a quad dual in Eddyville, playing host to their own conference quad meet and hitting a weekend invitational.
On Nov. 27, the Bears headed south to Eddyville. EVTC suffered a 52-24 loss to the host team and a 64-18 defeat to Mid Prairie and 42-36 win over Wapello.
Owen Jones notched a couple of falls at 175 to go 2-0 on the night. Deshon Anderson (138), Luke Moore (215) and Kaleb Bolinger (285) also recorded two sticks each on their way to 2-1 records.
Thursday brought the Bears home to host Iowa Valley, HLV and BGM. EVTC opened against BGM and fell 48-30.
Next up was a one-point victory, decided by criteria, over HLV followed by a 58-12 loss to Iowa Valley to wrap the night. Corey Breese went 2-1 with two falls at 157. At 132, Jack Osborn got one pin on his way to a 1-1 tally.
On Saturday, six Bears loaded up for the Willard Howell Invitational in Wapello. The team finished 10th with six points.
Individual results: 106, Cael Grove went 1-2 for 3rd place; 126, Hunter Offerman went 0-3; 138, Deshon Anderson went 1-2; 157, Corey Breese went 3-1 to claim 2nd place; 190, Teagan Mast finished in 6th place with a 1-2 record; 215, Kaleb Bollinger was 1-2 and finished 5th.
Girls wrestling
The girl grapplers opened the week with an invitational in Fort Madison. Overall EVTC finished 9th in the deep field with 78 points. Kadie Troyer at 110 and Anna Gorsh at 125 both pinned their way into their respective championship matches.
Both fell in the finals to earn second place.
Christy Knapp, at 140, lost her first match of the day but stormed back with three straight pins to claim third. Lila Shilling took fourth at 170 with a 2-2 record.
On Thursday the Bears stayed home and hosted conference opponents BGM and Iowa Valley. EVTC won both matches by beating BGM 35-18 and Iowa Valley 12-6.
Only four matches were wrestled to completion, and one was stopped due to injury time. Winners included Anna Gorsh with a tech fall at 125, and Christy Knapp with a fall at 135.
Saturday took the squad to Wapello for the Willard Howell Invite. The Bears sent eight girls to compete, but it proved to be a tough day, and a tough tournament.
There were no individual place winners. Lyla Smothers and Lila Shilling both finished with 2-2 records to pace the Bears.
