The English Valleys girls basketball team went 2-1 on the week with all three games played on the road.
First up was HLV Nov. 27. The Bears took a 16-11 lead into half time but gave it back in the second half, especially in the third quarter, and the Warriors came out on top 45-40.
Delaney Hall dropped 19 points and had five steals. Kennedy Axmear contributed 14 points and 14 rebounds.
English Valleys shot 52% from the field and 44% from three-point range to put away Iowa Valley 66-35 Nov. 28.
The Bears led from the start and continued to add to its lead in every quarter.
Hall again paced EV with 24 points and five steals. Axmear added 13 points of her own, plus 10 boards.
Freshman Addison Achenbach had a solid night with four rebounds, two assists, two steals and eight points.
The girls finished out the week with a trip to Belle Plaine. Axmear put up 30 points as EV topped Belle Plaine 65-39.
The Plainsmen turned over the ball 33 times in the game which contributed to eight different players scoring for EV.
Boys Basketball
The English Valleys boys’ teams had a little tougher week going 0-3 against South Iowa Cedar League opponents.
The Bears fell in game one to HLV 51-25, game two to Iowa Valley 72-48 and Belle Plaine 77-42 to cap the week.
HLV opened an 18-3 first quarter lead Nov. 27 and never looked back. The Bears were down 36-10 at the end of three but found a little offense in the fourth by putting up 15 points to more than double its total.
Iowa Valley went 11-for-24 from three and were just too much for the Bears to overcome. The Nov. 28 match up was close after one frame, but the middle quarters saw the Tigers open the game up.
Belle Plaine handed English Valleys its third defeat of the week by a 35-point margin. The Plainsmen scored 51 points in the first half and the Bears just didn’t have enough juice to make a comeback.
