English Valleys-Iowa Valley set for take 3 in District play

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released boys basketball postseason brackets late Monday afternoon in Class 1A-2A.

Preliminary round games in 1A are set for this Friday. First round games in both classes will be next Monday.

Two Districts make up a Substate. District winners will face off in Substate finals for State Tournament berths.

The area highlight in 1A is found in District 10 in what will be the third matchup between conference rivals English Valleys and Iowa Valley. The two teams split the regular season contests, both winning by seven on the road.

Due to Iowa Valley’s late-season surge, the Tigers have earned home-court advantage.

The top seed in District 10 is Calamus-Wheatland.

HLV-TC and Belle Plaine will both play in preliminary round games Friday. Valley Lutheran travels to play HLV-TC in District 6, Belle Plaine travels to Lone Tree in District 10.

The final area matchup comes in District 8. BGM travels to play Montezuma. The Braves won the two regular season games over the Bears.

If Montezuma can advance through two rounds, the Braves may get another try at top-seeded Lynnville-Sully in a potential District final.
