English Valleys, Williamsburg ranked in IATC preseason polls
Raiders with both teams ranked in preseason rankings

The English Valleys girls and Williamsburg girls and boys cross country teams made the Iowa Association of Track Coaches preseason cross country rankings Monday.
Starting Sept. 1, the IATC will post team and individual rankings weekly through the season. Rankings will be updated each Monday in all four classes.
The English Valleys’ girls were ranked sixth in Class 1A, fresh off a fifth-place finish at state last season. South Iowa Cedar League rival Lynnville-Sully was eighth on the girls’ side and 11th on the boys’.
In Class 3A, the Williamsburg girls came in at 14th, boys 19th.
Other WaMaC teams ranked on the girls’ side were Mount Vernon-Lisbon (2nd), Solon (4th) and Marion (18th).
Grinnell (3rd), Mount Vernon-Lisbon (4th) and Clear Creek Amana (12th) were ranked for the boys.
No area runners were ranked in the top 30 individual rankings in 1A or 3A.
Meets get underway next week.
Volleyball rankings
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released its preseason volleyball rankings Thursday afternoon. No area teams were in the top 15 in their classes.
Four WaMaC teams were ranked, highlighted by Clear Creek Amana at No. 1 in 4A. In 3A, the class Williamsburg plays in, West Delaware is fifth, Mount Vernon eighth and Center Point-Urbana 13th.
No schools in the SICL were ranked.
Gazette Football rankings
The Cedar Rapids Gazette released its preseason football rankings in all seven classes Friday morning. This year’s panel consists of six voters.
Two area teams were ranked in 8-player: Iowa Valley opens the season at fifth in the poll, Montezuma seventh.
Williamsburg received votes in 3A.
