The first Bucket Course of 2024 welcomes Grinnell College Professor Tamara Beauboeuf and her presentation “Becoming Edith Renfrow: Snapshots of an Affirmed Early 20th Century Black Girl.” The presentation will take place from 10:00-11:30 a.m. in the Caulkins Community Room at the Drake Community Library at Grinnell college. Bucket Courses are open to everyone in the community; no preregistration or fee is required. Donations to help pay for refreshments are welcome.
The Heart of Iowa Dems and the Iowa Democratic Party Disability Caucus will host a roundtable discussion of disability-related bills in the legislature at 7 p.m. via Zoom. Iowa County Kirkwood will host Cookie and Canvas from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 200 West St. in Williamsburg. The class is designed for school-age students with a parent or other adult. Participants will paint gnomes on canvas. The cost is $40. Call 319-668-2461 to register.

TKM Theatrical Productions presents “Death by Disco” by James Daab at Fireside Winery, 1755 P Ave., Marengo, Iowa. Set in the 1970s, the comedic murder mystery dinner theatre show welcomes visitors to The Land of Oz Discoteria, and the World Championship King and Queen of Disco Dance Contest. Feel free to dress in your grooviest 70s. Seating begins at 6:30 p.m., and the first course will be served at 7 p.m. The performance will begin shortly after. Tickets cost $75. State Sen. Molly Donahue will join a Grant Wood Area Education Agency spokesperson to discuss proposed AEA legislation at 5:30 p.m. the Millstream Brau Haus, 741 47th Ave. in Amana. Iowa County State legislators have been invited. The meeting is open to the public.
