Wednesday, Feb. 28
During a presentation at 1 p.m. at Marengo Public Library, author and historian O.J. Fargo will reenact what it was like to be a Civil War soldier returning from battle. The presentation is brought by Friends of the Marengo Library.
Friday, March 1
S.H.E. Counts (Supporting Helping Empowering Women) and the Brooklyn Opera House will kick off Women’s History Month with an International Women’s Day event. The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Brooklyn Opera House and Michael J. Manatt Community Center with networking booths. Claudia Schabel will deliver the keynote speech at 9:45 a.m. A panel will discuss women’s financial empowerment, women’s education and women’s health and leadership beginning at 11 a.m. The day will wrap up with a meal at noon.
The Victor United Women in Faith unit will have a World Day of Prayer event at 1:30 p.m. All women are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served after the program.
The North English Women of Faith will host a World Day of Prayer event at 11:30 a.m. at the North English History Center, 108 N. Main St. The topic this year is the Holy Land. Vicky and Vince Hollman will present a program from the Volunteers in Missions trip. A lunch will be served.
Saturday, March 2
Tyler Richton and the High Bank Boys will perform with Jake Simon at the Brooklyn Opera House.
Iowa County Kirkwood will conduct moped rider education from 8 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at 200 West St. in Williamsburg. Participants must be at least 13 years old and each should bring a sack lunch. Register for the class at Kirkwood.edu under continuing education or call 319-668-2461. The cost is $55. Space is limited.
Iowa County Kirkwood, at 200 West St. in Williamsburg, will conduct a babysitting clinic for children at least 10 years old. The class will teach first aid and safety, choking prevention, diaper changing and kid-friendly recipes and games. Each participant should bring a doll or teddy bear for diaper changing as well as a sack lunch. The class is limited to 10. Call 319-668-2461 to register.
The Turner Hall in Keystone will host a nut fry from 5-8 p.m. The cost is $18 per person for pork nuts, fish, beans and chips.
First United Methodist Church in Marengo is having a pancake supper from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Pancakes, sausages, eggs and beverages will be served. The church is located at 895 Court Avenue in Marengo. Free will donations to benefit the church are requested.
Sunday, March 3
Amana Church continues its winter symposium series of talks at 2 p.m. Peter Hoehnle will present “Two Communities: The Meskwaki and the Inspirationists” and “Seeing Pine Ridge” by several church members.
Enjoy “Friends” trivia from 2-3 p.m. at Fireside Winery, 1755 P Ave. southeast of Marengo. Teams of up to four people can compete for a Fireside prize. The event is free.
