Butler’s Bunch Sharing for Hope cancer support group will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the executive boardroom of Compass Memorial Healthcare in Marengo. The group welcomes anyone who has been affected by cancer to share their experiences or simply listen. To join via the internet, contact Mary Warwick at 319-642-8068.
Thursday, May 9
St. Joseph Catholic Church’s 12th annual Altar and Rosary tea and salad luncheon begins at 11 a.m. in the church basement. The guest speaker will be Mary Husband, volunteer seamstress for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. St. Joseph is located on West Broad Street in North English.
The Grinnell Farmers Market will kick off its season from 3-6 p.m. at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Broad Streets.

TKM Theatrical Productions will present “A Trick of the Light” by Peter Moore at The Amana Performing Arts Center, 39 38th Ave. in Amana at 2 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. The play features a middle-aged man who can vanish at will. Tickets are $25. Email deborahkennedy@live.com for group rates.
Saturday, May 11
The Grinnell Area Chamber of Commerce, downtown businesses and the Grinnell Farmers Market will host Build-A-Bouquet Crawl beginning at 10 a.m. Mothers are invited to visit participating Grinnell businesses and Farmers Market vendors for free long-stemmed flowers. Each store and vendor will have a different flower for the mothers’ bouquets. The event lasts until 2 p.m. or until supplies run out.

The Amana Library will host an ImpactLife Blood Drive from 1:30-6:30 p.m. in the donor bus in the Amana Library/Elementary parking lot, 3023 220th Trail in Middle Amana. Donors will receive a T-shirt or $20 gift card. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh more than 110 pounds and possess a photo ID. Donors should eat and hydrate before donating. Friends of the Marengo Public Library will host Secret Iowa: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful and Obscure at 1 p.m. at the Marengo library, 235 E. Hilton St. Author Megan Bannister will talk about Iowa’s offbeat destinations, roadside attractions and unique things to see and do.
