Iowa County Historical Society Pioneer Heritage Museum is open from noon to 3 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays during the summer. The museum is located at 675 E. South St. in Marengo.
Amana Community Library is having a used book sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. A selection of children’s books, adult books, cookbooks, DVDs and magazines are for sale for a cash donation. All proceeds will be used to buy new books for the library. Amana Community Library is located at 3023 220th Trail in Middle Amana.

The Iowa County Master Gardeners will hold a hypertufa workshop at Gateway Park and Arboretum in Marengo at 9 a.m. Residents will create faux limestone planters and learn about the hypertufa recipe and curing process to create their own projects. Attendees should wear old clothes and bring an apron and vinyl or latex dishwashing gloves. The event is free, but anyone who wants to take part should pre-register at the Iowa State University Extension office by call in 319-668-1052 so organizers can have enough materials.
Compass Memorial Healthcare Foundation will host a pancake breakfast from 7-10:30 a.m. at May Street Café inside Compass Memorial Healthcare in Marengo. The breakfast is available for a donation.
Sunday, Sept. 14
The Iowa County Master Gardeners are hosting a workshop about the basics of growing garlic at 1 p.m. at the Williamsburg Library. Learn what works best for local conditions when selecting, planting, growing and harvesting garlic. Taste some varieties and sample a dish or two. The library is located at 300 W. State St. in Williamsburg.
Essence of Life Hospice will release butterflies in memory of hospice patients from 1-2:30 p.m. Registration begins at 1 p.m., and a program and butterfly release will follow. Refreshments will be served, and activities will be provided for children. The event will take place at Koru Berry Farm, 1685 U Avenue near Homestead.
