Wednesday, July 10
Miss and Mr. Iowa County and Little Mr. and Miss will be crowned at the Iowa County fairgrounds in Marengo at 7 p.m. in the show ring.
The Iowa County Fair Luau, hosted by the Trailblazers, begins at 7:30 p.m. followed by slip-n-slide kickball, hosted by the Youth Council, at 8 p.m.
Thursday, July 11
The Iowa County Fair day begins with the national anthem and flag raising at 9 a.m. The rabbit show and dairy goat and dairy cattle show also begin at 9 a.m. at the fairgrounds in Marengo.
A meat goat show, breeding sheep and market sheep show begin at 10 a.m. at the Iowa County Fair in Marengo. The poultry show is set for 1 p.m. Master Gardeners will have a demonstration at 3 p.m., and a cornhole tournament will also begin at that time.
The Whiskey Fund will cover rock and blues favorites for Grinnell Art Council’s Thursday Music in the Park on the Central Park stage at 7 p.m. The band features seasoned Iowa musicians, including Jon Edwards, of Grinnell.
Poweshiek County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet at 1:30 p.m. in the Carnegie building located 200 S. Third St. in Montezuma. The program will be "Grand Old Flag" presented by Jim Eichhorn. The public is invited to attend this short program, honoring our nation's national flag. A handicapped entrance can be found on the south side of the Carnegie building. Refreshments will be served.
The Amana Community Library will host the Barnyard Discoveries Petting Zoo from 5-7 p.m. as part of its summer reading program. The library is located in Middle Amana behind the elementary school.
Friday, July 12
The swine show begins at the Iowa County fairgrounds in Marengo at 9 a.m. followed by the Pee Wee swine show. The horse show begins at 11 a.m. Livestock judging is set from 1:30 p. m. H & Fun Rides will have children’s activities from 2-8 p.m.
Master Gardeners will give a demonstration at 3 p.m. at the Iowa County fairgrounds in Marengo, part of the Iowa County Fair. Also at 3 p.m., the 4-H and FFA bucket and bottle calf show begin. An Antique tractors will be displayed on the track at 4 p.m. The Pee Wee Bottle lamb and goat show begin at 6:30 p.m.
Sam Roberts will provide music at the Iowa County Fairgrounds from 7-10 p.m.
Three award-winning wineries in the Amana Colonies will host “Pairings: An Evening of Wine and Appetizers” from 6-9 p.m. The event features tastings of six wines and appetizers expertly paired together. Ackerman Winery, Fireside Winery in the Village and White Cross Cellars have teamed up for the evening in the village of Amana. Pairings is limited to 60 individuals. Saturday, July 13
Join Williamsburg Public Library for an enlightening afternoon with the Iowa County Master Gardeners. “Rainwater Harvesting: Barrel of Benefits” begins at 1 p.m. in the large meeting room on the lower level of the library. The event is free and will teach gardeners how to collect rainwater and use it to create stunning, eco-friendly gardens. The breeding beef show at the Iowa County Fair begins at 9 a.m. at the Iowa County fairgrounds in Marengo, followed by the carcass results and the market beef show. A watermelon feed begins at noon. At 1 p.m. children may register for the kiddie pedal pull which begins at 1:30 p.m.
4-H and FFA members will host horse fun and games at 3 p.m., part of the Iowa County Fair in Marengo. The Conservation Station trailer will be open from 4-7 p.m. An ice cream social, sponsored by Ladora Saddle Club, begins at 4 p.m. The Pee Wee horse show begins at 5 p.m.
Sunday, July 14
Iowa County Gritter School will celebrate 150 years at 2 p.m. at 3306 J Ave. in North English. The program will include Banjoy Bluegrass band and an ice-cream social. Visitors should bring lawn chairs.
The English Valleys History Center has received funding from Humanities Iowa, a private, non-profit organization, to host a presentation called “The Lincoln Highway in Iowa — A History” by Darcy (Dougherty) Maulsby. Maulsby will speak at the English Valleys History Center at 2 p.m. The History Center is located at 108 N. Main St. in North English.
The Iowa County Fair in Marengo concludes with an appreciation breakfast at 9 a.m., an Ag Olympics at 11 a.m. and the release of exhibits after noon. The champion salute begins at 2 p.m. and will include senior awards, 4-H scholarships. The livestock sale begins at 3 p.m.
Monday, July 15
4-H exhibits will be judged at the Keokuk County Fair. Mutton busting and the Rogue Rodeo are on the entertainment schedule.
Tuesday, July 16
Barefoot Becky and the Ivanhoe Dutchmen will play in Grinnell Central Park Pavilion at 7 p.m.
The 4-H and FFA horse and pony show till take place at the Keokuk County Fair. Also scheduled are the Clover Kids, 4-H and FFA pet show, the 4-H communication program, a pie contest, Clover Kids graduation ceremony and a baby contest. Open class entries will be judged, and a Little Miss and Mister will be chosen.
Wednesday, July 17
Join a guest reader for Story Time at the city park in Williamsburg at 10:30 a.m. Following story time, children can help water the library’s gardens with the Iowa County Master Gardeners.
Cook the Book will meet from noon to 1:15 p.m. in the lower-level meeting room at Williamsburg Public Library. Swing by the Williamsburg Public Library, pick a recipe from the featured cookbook, prepare your dish and bring it to share with the group.
