Son Peruchos, from Des Moines, will play Grinnell Art Council’s Thursday Music in the Park on the Central Park stage at 7 p.m. The band is a fusion of Andean and South American folk music and uses traditional instruments, such as the zampona, quena and charango. The group integrates traditional Andean sound with more modern Latin and Caribbean rhythms, such as cumbia, bachata and rock en español. Catch them regularly at Noce Jazz Cabaret in Des Moines.
Author Hannah Steinmetz will talk about her book and her writing process at the Victor Public Library at 6 p.m. Steinmetz is the author of the historical Christian fiction book “Ambition’s Hour.”
Iowa County Democrats will host local candidates at Lizzie’s Dining Car and Caboose Bar, 1041 Court Avenue in Marengo, from 5-7 p.m. Get together, have a beverage and chat with Jay Gorsh, candidate for House District 91, Ed Chabal, candidate for Senate District 46, and Jason Grimm, candidate for Iowa County Board of Supervisors.
Friday, July 26
TKM Theatrical Productions hosts a screening of Episode 2 of “Stages” by Jonesy McElroy. An encore screening of Episode 1 begins at 6 p.m. at the Amana Performing Arts Center, 39 38th Ave. in Amana. At 7 p.m., ticket holders may mingle with McElroy and the cast. Ox Yoke Inn will provide refreshments. At 7:30 p.m., a backstage tour begins, followed by the screening of Episode 2 at 7:45 p.m. Tickets cost $25 and may be purchased at tkmtheatricalproductions.com/ or by contacting Deborah Kennedy at deborahkennedy@live.com.

Ladora Development Committee brings music to the pavilion at Wayne Shaull Memorial Field, 804 Iowa Street in Ladora. Four Day Creep, a local band that plays 70s and 80s music, will provide live music from 7-11 p.m. Peppy’s Ice Cream and Fire on Wheels Pizza will begin selling food at 6 p.m. A dummy boards tournament begins at 1 p.m. A beer tent will be on site. Coolers are not allowed. Visitors should bring lawn chair for seating.
Marengo Fire Association will host a Rod and Reel Channel Catfish Tournament. The cost is $50 for each two-person team. Registration begins at 5:30 a.m. at Marengo Fire Station, 153 Main St. in Marengo. Fishing starts at 5 a.m. Anglers may fish from Belle Plaine River Bridge to the Amana Dam. Weigh in is at noon at the Marengo Fire Department. Cash prizes will be awarded for largest fish and largest stringer of eight fish per team. Proceeds will be used to purchase equipment for the fire department.

The Amana Community Library will host a presentation from the East Central Iowa Council of Governments at 10 a.m. as part of its summer reading program. The library is located in Middle Amana behind the elementary school.
