Kirkwood Community College hosts Kick Off Night from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to gear up for the academic year ahead. Enjoy refreshments and door prizes and learn about the many programs offered at Kirkwood including college credit in high school, workplace learning connection, high school completion, continuing education and programs on the main campus.

Iowa County Pioneer Heritage Museum is open noon to 4 p.m. The museum is located at 675 E. South St. in Marengo.
Friday, Aug. 23
“Sex, Please, We’re Sixty” opens at the Amana Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. A farce by Michael Park and Susan Parker, the play depicts a getaway weekend that goes totally bonkers when multiple, crazy romances spark among old friends and new. Tickets are $25. The play is a TKM Theatrical Production.

Tutorburg, Navigation Play and Williamsburg Public Library hosts Burg Reads from noon to 2 p.m. on the Williamsburg square. Navigation Play and the library will have activities in town square park.
Ladora’s Family Day usually begins at 11 a.m. A silent auction will raise money for the Ladora Development Committee from 12-5 p.m.
Standing Hampton will provide live music in the evening, playing 70s and 80s music, a little Rock and a little Country. Children’s games and food trucks round out the event at the pavilion at Wayne Shaull Memorial Field, 804 Iowa Street in Ladora.

Compass Memorial Healthcare Foundation will host a 5k/10k and pancake breakfast. Breakfast will be served from 7-10:30 a.m. in the hospital café. The hospital is located at 300 W. May St. in Marengo.

In its ongoing pursuit of topics of value and interest to the community, the English Valleys History Center will introduce the community’s new attorney, Grant Taylor, Sunday, Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. to discuss several topics, including default inheritance rules without a will, planning considerations when children are not from present marriage, trust provisions for children, guardian provisions for minor children, power of attorney forms and proper titling of assets. The event is free. Donations will be accepted.
Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church will host community singing at 6 p.m. Anyone may prepare a piece of music or a favorite reading or come to listen. Everyone is invited to bring a finger food to share during the time of fellowship to follow.
Wednesday, Aug. 28
Victor Public Library will present a program at 10 a.m. about how to identify and avoid scams. Iowa County Sheriff Rob Rotter will tell residents how to identify scams and what to do to protect themselves and their families.
