Wednesday, Sept. 18
Friends of the Marengo Public Library presents Morbid Curiosities: An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe at 12:30 p.m. at Marengo Public Library. Local Storyteller Darrin Crow will become Edgar Allan Poe for one afternoon to talk about his life and share his best stories and poetry, including “The Masque of the Red Death,” “The Raven” and “The Tell-Tale Heart.”
Friday, Sept. 20
An opening reception will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. at Homestead Church Museum for local artist David Garman. Garman’s series A Prophecy in Paint will be displayed during regular Homestead Church Museum hours from Sept. 21 through Sept. 29.
Saturday, Sept. 21
Belle Plaine Community Development Corporation hosts Cider Stroll on Belle Plaine’s historic main street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can shop at local shops, with multiple vendors and enjoy pumpkins, food and music.
Harry K. Smith, former television news personality, will speak at the All-Iowa Writers’ Conference at Community Hope Church in Montezuma at 9 a.m.
Jake Simon and Blake Jack will perform at 8 p.m. at The Brooklyn Opera House, 115 Jackson St. in Brooklyn. Tickets are available at brooklynoperahouse.com.
Sunday, Sept. 22
Caedyn Huston, a 15-year-old sophomore at Mid-Prairie High School in Wellman who studies history, will be speaking at the English Valleys History Center at 2 p.m. at 108 N Main St. in North English about the life of a soldier during World War II.
Wednesday, Sept. 25
Churches of the Mid-Prairie District will host the Watoto Children’s Choir at Hillcrest Academy’s Celebration Hall from 7-8:15 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. A free will offering will be taken. Hillcrest Academy is located at 1421 540th St. SW in Kalona.
