Wednesday, Oct. 16
The Iowa County Public Health Department is offering flu vaccines from noon to 2 p.m. at Marengo Senior Dining on Court Avenue. The cost is $10. Vaccines are free to those who present a Medicare/Medicaid insurance card.
Thursday, Oct. 17
Williamsburg Public Library will present "Bee-ing Friends to Pollinators” at 6:30 p.m. in the large meeting room. Presented by the Master Gardeners of Iowa County, this workshop will provide attendees with expert instruction on best practices for attracting pollinators to their flower beds.
Iowa County Supervisor candidate Jason Grimm will meet with residents from 6-8 p.m. at Lizzie’s Dinning Car & Caboose Bar, 1041 Court Ave. in Marengo.
Saturday, Oct. 19
Sam’s 5K Fun Run begins at 8 a.m. as part of Marengo’s Fall Festival. Registration begins at 7 a.m. The race is sponsored by The Ripple Project and begins and ends in front of Iowa Valley High School.
Children can collect candy during a trunk-or-treat event at the Marengo’s Fall Festival. Children may line up at 3:15 p.m. at the southwest corner of the city park. Other events taking place during the annual festival is a frozen casserole sale which begins at 1 p.m. at Eva Goettsch Family Dentistry. Parents for Prom will host a bake sale beginning at 1 p.m. Leanne’s School of Dance will perform from 1-1:45 p.m. on the bandstand followed by a costume contest for children up to sixth grade and for adults. Children’s activities — games, balloon art and pumpkin painting — will take place from 1-3 p.m. Marengo’s adult recreations leagues will conduct a kickball tournament, and a scarecrow decorating contest begins in the park at 12:30 p.m. Sam Roberts will provide music from 3-5 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 20
Keokuk County Historical Society, 402 E. Elm St. in Sigourney, will host an open house from 1-4 p.m. Snacks will be served.
Monday, Oct. 21
Iowa PBS will host Iowa Press Debates: 1st Congressional District at 8 p.m. at Iowa PBS studios in Johnston. Hosted by Iowa Press moderator Kay Henderson, candidates Christina Bohannan (D — Iowa City) and U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R — Davenport) will answer questions from reporters and discuss their platforms, concerns and future plans. Henderson will moderate the debate with two Iowa political reporters.
