The Keokuk County Historical Society is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. except for the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s. Arrangements for visiting other days can be arranged by calling 641-622-3005 and leaving a message.
Compass Memorial Healthcare will be caroling in Victor beginning at 5:30 p.m. The wagon will travel the streets of Victor, and Santa will stop to give gifts to children along the random route.
Local musicians Peggy Wardenburg and Karin Malloy will perform festive Christmas music by the fireplace from 11 a.m. to noon at Williamsburg Public Library, 300 W. State Street. This free concert series, held on the library's upper level, offers an opportunity for people to relax and soak in the holiday spirit. “A Murder for Christmas” by Karen and Alex Schaeffer premiers at 7:30 p.m. at the Amana Performing Arts Center, 39 38th Ave. in Amana. In this hilarious whodunit, a small community theatre group’s annual performance of “A Christmas Carol” goes horribly awry. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at tkmtheatricalproductions.com/courses.
Amana’s Tannenbaum Forest is open from noon to 7 p.m. Santa will meet children from 1-6 p.m. Admission is free but donations are welcome. All proceeds will support the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital and local nonprofits. Tannenbaum Forest is located at 4707 220th Trail in Amana. The building is not heated, so dress appropriately.
The historic King Theater in Belle Plaine will show “Wicked” at 7 p.m. Doors open 45 minutes before showtime. The theater is located at 720 12th St. in Belle Plaine’s downtown.
Saturday, Dec. 14
Join Astronomy enthusiasts Mark Bowman and Kate Poeltler at Marengo Public Library at 10:30 a.m. as they discuss the history and relevance of stargazing and astronomy, the shapes, locations and mythology of winter constellations and when and where to stargaze. The library is located at 235 E. Hilton St. in Marengo. The program is presented by Friends of the Marengo Public Library.
Brooklyn Community Theatre presents “Many Things.” This hilarious play, leveraging local acting talent, is about a mom who is working to make everything come together for a perfect Christmas, but nothing is going right. Victor will celebrate Christmas all day, all over town. Santa will make an appearance from 8-10 p.m. at The 214 Bar and Grill. HLV Booster Club sponsors a craftshow in the HLV gymnasiums from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. More than 115 vendors will fill two levels with unique gift items. Photos with Santa will be offered at S & S Appliance, 217 Washington St., from 3:30-6 p.m. Tickets for the tour of homes are $10 per person for anyone over the age of 5. Homes on the tour are those of Mike and Dani O’Brien, 1511 Poweshiek Iowa Rd, Hartwick; Paul and Ann Sauter, 2761 CC Ave., Victor; and Val Hansen, 616 Washington St., Victor. A fireworks display, sponsored by Brooklyn Community Estate and Rose Haven Nursing Home, will light the sky at 6:15 p.m., and DJ Chris Roggentien will close out the festival at The 214 Bar from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
