IOWA COUNTY — The ninth annual Lake Iowa Fishing Derby will take place at Lake Iowa at 2550 G Ave. near Ladora. Registration begins at 5 a.m. at the Nature Center. The derby will take place from 6-11 a.m. The entry fee is $20 per person for individuals or two-person teams. Children 16 and under fish free. Cash prizes will be awarded. Prizes and raffles will follow the derby at the Nature Center. An ice fishing clinic will be held from 7-8 a.m. at an official tent in the middle of the lake, covering basics of safety, electronics, baits and plastics, and fishing techniques. Health officials will host a meeting about cancer at 3 p.m. at Williamsburg Public Library. Iowa Cancer Registry and University of Iowa College of Public Health, in collaboration with the Iowa Cancer Consortium, University of Iowa Health Care Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Iowa Rural Health Association, is hosting the Cancer in Iowa: 99 Counties Project to present county-specific cancer information and address community concerns in each of Iowa’s 99 counties. Whitney Zahnd, past-president of the Iowa Rural Health Association and Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa Department of Health Management and Policy will speak. The Iowa Democratic Party will caucus at 7 p.m. at Iowa Valley Junior-Senior High School, 359 E. Hilton St., in Marengo. Use the gymnasium entrance. The party will set goals for 2026, elect delegates and alternates to the county convention, elect precinct committee members to the county central committee and discuss and adopt proposed resolutions to be added to the county platform. Residents can register to vote or change their registrations during the caucus. Iowans 18 or older by Nov. 3 may register to vote and participate in the caucus. Iowa County Republican precinct caucuses will begin at 7 p.m. at Millersburg City Hall, 461 Washington St., for Millersburg for Dayton and English I precincts; North English City Hall, 200 S. Main St., North English, for precinct English II; Parnell City Hall, 600 Cleveland St., Parnell, for Fillmore and Greene precincts; Victor City Hall, 707 Second St., Victor for Hartford and Sumner and Hartford 2 and Lincoln precincts; Hilton Hall, 550 Seventh Ave., Conroy, for Washington and Hilton precincts; Marengo Library, 235 E. Hilton St., Marengo, for Honey Creek and Marengo precincts; Welfare Club, 4215 V St., Homestead, for Lenox and Iowa precincts; Marengo High School auditorium, 359 E. Hilton St., Marengo, for Marengo City precinct; and the Williamsburg Library small meeting room, 300 W. State St., for Pilot, Troy, York and Williamsburg City precincts.
